When boundaries disappear
Some concerts are born within a genre.
Others emerge precisely where genres stop being important.
Ànima en Tres begins with an unusual combination: flute, piano and flamenco percussion. Three instruments rooted in different traditions, often found in separate musical contexts.
Here, however, they share a common language.
The programme moves from the Romantic world of Franz Borne to Paco de Lucía, Manuel de Falla and Chucho Valdés. It is not about moving from one style to another, but about discovering the connections that exist between them.
Rhythm, improvisation, melody and listening reappear again and again in different forms. The boundaries between classical music, flamenco and Latin influences become more permeable, and the works begin to speak to one another.
Perhaps this is one of the most interesting qualities of contemporary music: the possibility of keeping one's roots without remaining confined by them.
Ànima en Tres does not leave any tradition behind.
It brings them into conversation.
